Now, on July 20, the latest paid expansion partnered with a new free update has been added to the experience, bringing a myriad of new content and changes. Two years after the game's transition out of early access, the first expansion titled Royalty was released, adding titles, psychic powers, quests, and more to the game's already overflowing amount of content. The latest expansion for RimWorld has just dropped, bringing a complex belief system along with new quests and the mysterious Archonexus endgame. Starting as a Kickstarter-funded alpha, RimWorld has gone from crowdfunding to Steam early access to a fully released and massively successful colony simulator as of late 2018, remaining as one of Steam's top-selling and best-rated indie games on the platform and inspiring similar games in the genre.
